Photo review of 2018 Barbie Fashionistas 75 curvy doll Lavendar Kiss and some reflexions about quality.

In theory this doll is part of the 2018 Fashionistas' wave 1 but she was released in Spain at the end of 2017.

The first time I saw her I was not very interested in adding her to my collection, as you already know my reasons for discarding dolls are always the same: time, space and money. It is a difficult task, because until now I have always liked them all.

So I convinced myself not to acquire her :-) In fact I saw her several times in El Corte Inglés, Carrefour and Toysrus; but I remained firm in my decision until I saw her, Marta.

I can not help it, I always look in the doll section ... this time I was hoping to find new models (what a desire to get the petite 30). But no, there were no new models but three dolls like her.

And I looked at them, and I discarded them one by one convinced of not wanting any ... until I saw Marta. Uff, looking at her was my undoing. What did I like about her? I had no idea, it was love at first sight. I did not understand it, honestly, because of this model I have seen about ten or twelve. And she is not perfect at all, but I liked it. Maybe because of its imperfections?

No he olvidado mi promesa ¿recordáis?

Maite (Barbie Fashionista 74) and Alba (Barbie Fashionista 63) have collaborated with me in unpacking and reviewing this barbie.

I have not forgotten my promise, remember? I had promised Alba that she was going to be the protagonist of this entry. She has agreed with me to "give way" to Marta (Barbie Fashionistas 75). because it's easier for me to explain my doubts about the quality of the new fashionistas. And calm, Alba will be the protagonist of the next post.

So we go there. When Marta arrived home, I was already aware of some of her imperfections. Then I discovered some more flaws, so I was not sure how to protect her. As expected, waiting a few days seemed the best option. And the days turned into weeks ...

As you can see in the previous photo, her left eye has a small gray shadow that is not in her right eye. Curiously, this detail has been definitive in my decision to debox her, as it was the expression on her face that I fell in love with her. Marta also arrived with her hair a little tangled and with her legs ... I do not know what adjective to use exactly. The one that should be a subtle line on his legs does not have anything of subtle :-(

And what about quality? Because so far, in the photos, Marta is still inside her box. Let's see, first I always check their hair: quantity and quality. I do not like that they have bald spots, or huge amounts of glue. I also check if the hair is well implanted on the forehead, otherwise it does not look very nice. And I also look at the hairline, it is important that it is well made because if it is not like that, there are bald areas.

Then I look at their eyes, their lips ... makeup in general. In my opinion it is important that this is well defined (not pixilated or discolored) and that it matches their facial features (I have discarded dolls with eyes at the level of the cheeks).

If everything is correct, I notice their clothes. For me it is important that it fits well, that is, I observe its size and that the garment is aligned with the body. I also see that the seams are well finished and straight (or curved or as expected to be at home garment). Finally I check that there are all the accessories that it is supposed to carry and look for any serious or very obvious failure that may be.

Despite all my demands, I'm not looking for perfection. Basically I try to cure myself in health since the quality has dropped a lot. But if the doll is pretty, even slightly imperfect it seems more realistic, "more human". Of course, always within a minimum of quality. I think nobody likes bad dolls or teasing :-(

Maite has collaborated in this review because it is a good example of how, even selecting very carefully before deciding, we can find new surprises. In the previous photo we can see how, above all, his right leg also has an unevenness along the line of union or line of mold.

The problem of this failure is that it is difficult to observe when the doll is inside its box (remember the numerous checks I made before deciding on a new doll). For this reason, I have new fashionistas like this in my collection, I did not see it before deboxing them! And something like this has never happened to me before.

And Maite is not the only one or the worst case :-( It appeared to be fine, it seemed that I only had her hair with too much glue, but I was wrong ... Oh, Mattel! Even though I looked at everything (or I thought that) I did not see it and I feel like you colasted the goal, and that's not good at all.

After a long and thoughtful reflection, after consulting my heart and after an inner struggle between my most rational self and my most passionate self, after all this, I made my decision: Marta stays.

It was a slow-motion fight, unhurried, slow, quiet, but it was a struggle. Honestly, I do not want to waste time and spend fuel to go back to the store. I don't worry about the loss of quality if Mattel is not worried about it either, because I do not need to buy defective dolls. It's that simple

Does this mean that Marta is the last, the doll that closes my collection of barbies? No, it means that poor quality disappoints and bores me. Looking for fashionistas has gone from being fun to being an unnecessary struggle full of distrust.

It also means that I no longer feel like a fashionista collector. Being a collector implies a passion and a commitment that have fallen on my hands. I like fashionistas and a lot, but it's not the same anymore.

I stay with my girls and time will tell if there are any more. A hobby must be beautiful, fun and exciting; but it is not a hobby.

Now it's time to enjoy the company of Marta.

I have not forgotten to remove the plastic clips on the back of the neck! I simply wanted to share with you the simplest and most effective way to get rid of them, without cutting.

Just proceed as follows:

1- hold using pliers as seen in the previous photograph

2- pull gently but firmly

And that's it, the plastic restraint will come out in one piece. The trick to get the whole piece and not to break is not to squeeze excessively, but gently. And proceed to pull slowly to extract it.

Marta wanted to give Maite a medal, in gratitude for having helped her out of the box.

So my advice after this experience is that you look their legs well looking for that line: move the box, turn it and play with the light, because the light will help you see better if they have this failure and know how it is serious.

And what about Alba?

Well, if I found Maite in Seville and Marta in Malaga, Alba is not from Malaga, nor from Seville ... because she has not reached the toy stores here. And after checking that personally choosing the dolls also has its risks, I decided to try my luck with Amazon.

So where is Alba? From Madrid! Or was she from Catalonia? Well, I have such a bad memory that I do not remember it and the box has already been recycled :-) But since my Christie is Catalan, I'm delighted to think that Alba is from Madrid and so each one is from a place ;-)

And in this face or cross, luck wanted Alba to arrive perfect, 99% because perfection does not exist. Phew, what a relief. It really was a toss up ...

todas: jajaja

And here we are, at the end of this post. Enjoying each other.

Mini-me: A coffe, girls?

Marta (who is "very coffee"): Yes, of course. It's always a good time for a cafeteria or two or three ...

Maite: one, better one. And for me decaffeinated, that caffeine reveals me.

Alba: for me with milk.

Marta (telling a joke): Doctor, doctor, will my husband lose his eye? I hope not, just in case I put it in his pocket.

all: hahaha

  1. Hola!
    Saludos!!!

  2. Hello :-). Despite the flaws your new doll is beautiful. I love her hair and outfit!
It's so true, the quality of Barbie dolls in general is getting unacceptable :-/. I don't like the stress and disappointment either, it's indeed no fun anymore!
The tip you gave on removing the plastic things is amazing! I always use scissors, but I will surely try your method!
    Kind greetings :-)

  3. First, I thought you were going to leave her in the box and not take her out. Mattel can do better. I think they are trying, but they need their workers to do better. She is nice new addition.
